Relief

Relief aid, also known as humanitarian aid, is short-term assistance given to people affected by disasters or crises, such as wars, earthquakes, floods, and droughts. The goal of relief aid is to help people survive and recover by providing for their basic needs, such as food, water, shelter, and income.

Relief aid is based on a quick assessment of needs and is delivered to groups of people who are least able to help themselves. It can include providing:

  • Food, water, blankets, and generators
  • Temporary shelter
  • Health services
  • Support for refugees’ daily needs

Relief aid is different from development aid, which is long-term assistance given to developing countries to address systematic problems like poverty and economic development.
