Statement by Displaced International on Escalating Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis in the Middle East
Displaced International (DI) expresses deep concern over the escalating interstate conflict in the greater Middle East, which is exacerbating the suffering of millions already displaced by years of war, instability, and economic collapse. The growing violence not only threatens to displace even more people but also undermines regional and global peace and security.
“We are troubled by the escalation of violence in a region that has endured decades of conflict. This increasing instability risks worsening the already severe humanitarian crisis faced by displaced populations and vulnerable communities. All parties must prioritize dialogue, de-escalation, and the protection of civilians to prevent further harm and create the space needed for peace,” said Ambassador Ashraf Haidari, DI Founder & President.
The situation is further aggravated by the decline of international aid, rising poverty, the intensifying effects of climate change, and increasingly restrictive immigration policies. These combined crises are pushing already-vulnerable communities to the brink, eroding social resilience, and fostering widespread despair.
In such an environment, marginalized youth, left without support from national systems or the international community, are at heightened risk of recruitment by extremist and terrorist groups that prey on desperation and hopelessness. The implications of this threat extend far beyond the region, affecting global security and stability.
Displaced International calls for an immediate ceasefire and urges all parties to show restraint and adhere to international humanitarian law. We stress the urgent need for renewed diplomacy and conflict resolution in line with the United Nations Charter. The protection of civilians, restoration of humanitarian aid, and a commitment to dialogue focused on mutually beneficial solutions must take precedence to prevent further human suffering and pave the way for lasting regional peace and stability.
