NED Survey Explores Afghan Diaspora’s Role in Fostering Democracy in Afghanistan

In an effort to strengthen democratic values and practices in Afghanistan, a researcher associated with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has launched a survey targeting the Afghan diaspora. The study aims to understand how members of the diaspora can play a critical role in fostering democracy, particularly given the ongoing challenges and restrictions within Afghanistan.
The survey is structured to explore several key areas: participants’ familiarity with digital platforms, experiences with civic engagement and democratic participation, perspectives on emerging technologies, and views on collaboration within the diaspora. By gathering diverse insights, the NED researcher hopes to identify innovative ways for the diaspora to engage in democratic processes despite the current barriers within the country.
According to the survey guidelines, participants will answer questions across seven sections. Responses to certain questions will be ranked on a scale from 1 to 5, where 1 indicates the least, 3 indicates an average or neutral stance, and 5 indicates the most. This structured format allows researchers to capture nuanced opinions and trends within the community.
All responses will remain anonymous and will be used solely for research purposes, ensuring participants’ privacy and encouraging honest feedback. Organizers emphasize the value of these contributions, stating that the insights gathered will be instrumental in shaping strategies to strengthen democracy in Afghanistan.
