A Spring of Unity: Turkic Embassies Host Nowruz in Washington to Honor Shared Humanity

Ambassador Ashraf Haidari, Founder & President of Displaced International (DI), recently attended a vibrant joint Nowruz celebration hosted by the embassies of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan at the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C.
“It was an honor to take part in this meaningful celebration of Nowruz alongside distinguished diplomats from our brotherly nations, including my good friend Ambassador Khazar Ibrahim of Azerbaijan,” said Ambassador Haidari. “I was also delighted to reconnect with many Turkish colleagues and friends—diplomats who served in Afghanistan with dedication and distinction.”
Nowruz, a timeless celebration with roots dating back over 3,000 years, heralds the arrival of spring and symbolizes renewal, unity, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. In 2009, UNESCO recognized Nowruz as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—affirming its role in promoting peace, cultural diversity, and mutual understanding across borders.
This same spirit of renewal and compassion is deeply reflected in the generosity of the Turkish people and government, who have welcomed millions of refugees in recent years—including countless Afghans displaced since 2021. Their continued hospitality serves as a living testament to the very values Nowruz embodies: solidarity, resilience, and hope.
We express our deepest gratitude to Türkiye for its unwavering support in times of profound crisis. As displacement continues to rise globally, we urge the international community to take collective responsibility in supporting and protecting displaced populations. No single nation should be left to bear this burden alone.
As Nowruz-belt nations plant trees and renew their lands in harmony with nature, may this new solar year sow the seeds of peace, healing, and hope—for all those who have been forced to flee their homes and for a more compassionate and united world.
